Wednesday's Class-Carrie Fetler

I think the visit from Rachel and Mazzy on Wednesday was really helpful. Rachel went over some of the information from the text, but the bulk of the information about the role of Philadelphia in the animal welfare movement was news to me. I also did not known as much about the founding of the anti-vivisection society or the extent to which the animals suffered.
Rachel also gave a lot of good information about groups in existence today and what they are doing for animals, especially pit bull specific work. I also liked how she went more in depth about the idea of "no-kill" and the staggering number of animals put down every year. I also didn't know about the transfer of animals from one area to another where they may be in demand. I think this is a clever aid to problems of having to put unwanted dogs down, but its sad that pit bulls are unwanted everywhere.
It was great to have Mazzy in class not only because shes adorable, but because its nice to see a rescue success story. By the way she was described, it seems like shes come such a long way from when she was first found in the basement.
