Reflective Journal

...It wasn't until after orientation and reading Animal Ethics Reader that I realized how much I identified with the rights perspective.  It is hard, though, to know where to begin in actualizing the ideal "ethical" lifestyle.  I grew up in a home where I was expected to learn how to hunt and fish.  To a lot of people, it may seem strange, but game meat is some of the only food I ate as a kid.  It's more normal for me to eat a venison steak than a hamburger.  Our family has been hunters for generations and I am uncomfortable saying that the practice is morally reprehensible.  At the same time, I am beginning to doubt many of the beliefs I previously held about using animals as food.
